Local Organization Names INCPAS Member to Board
Boards and CPAs benefit from INCPAS CPAs Lead the Way program
INDIANAPOLIS – David Holets, CPA with Crowe Chizek and Company LLC in Indianapolis was appointed to the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis (POI) Board of Directors this March. The Indiana CPA Society member saw a posting for CPAs Lead the Way in e-Perspective, the Society’s weekly e-newsletter, and felt inclined to help. Holets resides in Greenwood.
In December, POI submitted a request for an accounting professional to serve on its board through CPAs Lead the Way. The Indiana CPA Society’s CPAs Lead the Way program is a free service that aims to match CPAs in leadership positions with Indiana not-for-profits and civic organizations. The Society acts as a liaison between organizations and CPAs by posting board member openings in publications that reach more than 7,000 Indiana CPAs.
Holets chose to join POI's board because of his passion for music. “I saw the opportunity to work with an all-volunteer organization with the mission to promote the value of music in our community and realized this would be a great way to support an organization dedicated to one of my passions,” he said.
POI, located in Indianapolis, presents classical music at affordable prices. It features soloists in masterworks and new compositions, conserves the abilities of volunteer musicians of all ages and occupations, and helps young people to appreciate and perform great music.
As with many not-for-profits, POI was looking for an individual to join its board. Members of boards know their business/organization will benefit from a CPA’s financial and business advice and expertise. Having a CPA on a board not only assists organizations in financial planning; it gives the CPA recognition among their peers, potential clients and employers.
“David brings professional skills, experience with volunteer organizations, knowledge about youth programs, and musical talent to the board of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis,” said Robin Andres, POI Executive Director. “As a CPA, David will be an asset helping create a sound financial plan as POI programs are developed.”
Holets encourages other not-for-profits to utilize the INCPAS service. “The CPAs Lead the Way program is an excellent way to match Indiana’s CPAs who have an interest in the community with charitable organizations,” said Holets. “CPAs typically have several years of experience in the business world which is directly applicable to the challenges faced by charitable organizations."
