Indianapolis CPA Selected for Inaugural AICPA Leadership Academy

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana CPA Society member Stephanie Dunn, CPA, of Indianapolis, is one of only 25 CPAs selected for the inaugural American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Leadership Academy July 7-9, 2009, in Chicago.

The AICPA Leadership Academy will provide personal development and leadership training, while instilling a commitment to be involved in the CPA profession's volunteer organizations. The Academy aims to create a pool of engaged young CPAs who will become future leaders within their organizations, the AICPA and state societies, the CPA profession, and other voluntary non-profit organizations

Ernie Almonte, CPA, AICPA chair, Barry Melancon, CPA, AICPA president and CEO and Marty Linsky, cofounder and principal, Cambridge Leadership Associates, will share their leadership strategies and discuss their outlook on the CPA profession's future.

"I was honored to have been one of two INCPAS nominees, but to be actually selected for the Academy was truly an amazing feeling. I am thrilled to be part of something that the Society and the AICPA sees as a vital step to ensure that the CPA profession is developing a pool of high-quality and effective leaders," said Dunn.

Dunn actively supports the Society's initiatives and looks for ways to be involved in her profession. She is an Emerging Leaders Alliance (ELA) member and regularly promotes the value of the CPA designation to students through campus presentations and student outreach.

She read about the opportunity to apply for a position in the Academy through Lead It!, an INCPAS e-newsletter for Emerging Leaders Alliance members. "There was a blurb about the inaugural AICPA Leadership Academy. In reading the information available, I thought that it would be a great way for me to enhance my leadership skills and to network with other young professionals from across the country."

Dunn currently is a tax manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Indianapolis. She is looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the Academy and apply what she learns to her professional career.

"During my six years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, I have had a number of opportunities that have allowed me to realize my leadership potential. However, in my opinion, a true leader is one that continues to develop oneself and does not become stagnant. While attending the Academy, I plan to gain the knowledge and skills needed for me to become a more effective leader in my current position at PwC, the Society, and my community, and then take specific follow-up action steps to apply what I had learned."
