INCPAS Fraud Conference Aug. 27

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana CPA Society's 2009 Fraud Conference will be held Aug. 27, in partnership with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners – Central Indiana Chapter and the Institute of Internal Auditors Indianapolis Chapter, at the Indianapolis Marriott East.

This conference provides attendees with strategies and techniques that will open their eyes to the most prevalent schemes of today. Chuck Coffin, special agent with the Office of the Indiana Inspector General, will discuss what should be done after fraud is detected. Also, Ed McMillan, CPA, CAE, the Fraud Guru, will discuss fraud today, revealing all new case studies that expose creative fraud schemes.

All topics covered have an impact on small business, financial institutions, and other users of CPA services. With so many topics to choose from, a number of different story ideas or angles are possible. Some suggestions include the following:

  • Fraud often occurs and goes undetected in organizations. What can local companies do when their current internal controls are not working as intended?
  • Many companies have experienced layoffs with the downturn in the economy and have eliminated some controls. How is this affecting the organizations in your area?
  • U.S. organizations lose an estimated seven percent of their annual revenues to fraud. What are companies in your community doing to prevent fraud losses?
