Becoming a CPA
Indiana CPAs must meet the following rigorous standards and licensing requirements:
- Complete at least 150 hours of education from an accredited college program
- Pass the Uniform CPA Examination
- Regarded as the most rigorous of all professional certification exams, the 14-hour CPA Exam has four sections:
- Auditing and Attestation
- Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Regulation
- Business Environment and Concepts
- The Board of Examiners of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is responsible for preparing and grading the Exam
- Acquire two years of real-world work experience
- Experience constitutes the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills
- Experience may be gained through employment in government, business and industry, academia or public practice
- Experience must be verified by a licensee
- Complete 120 hours of continuing professional education every three years to maintain CPA license, including at least 20 hours each year
- Adhere to a professional code of conduct stressing the core values of the profession:
- Independence
- Objectivity
- Integrity
- Commitment to Serving and Protecting the Public Interest
