Mike Barker, CPA, CISA, CGMA joined the Society as VP-finance in late 2009. He brings with him unique combination of expertise in risk management, accounting, audit, and strategic planning. Prior to working at the Society, he served the board of directors and senior management of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis for 24 years. He retired from FHLB in 2009
While at the bank, one of Barker's greatest accomplishments was championing the creation of FHLB's enterprise risk management function, which created the framework for the identification of market, credit and operational risks. His background in financial reporting qualifies him as an audit committee financial expert under stock exchange listing standards.
As the VP-finance at the Society, Barker establishes and recommends to management major corporate economic strategies, objectives and policies. He also supervises the Peer Review Program and serves as the staff resource to the INCPAS Ethics Committee and Health Insurance Benefits Committee.
Barker has a B.S. in accounting from Ball State University and a MBA from Anderson University. In addition, he continually stays abreast of current topics by proactively studying industry literature and attending risk management and accounting continuing education courses.
Barker has a passion for encouraging excellence in young people. As his children were growing up, Mike and his wife Tela, were active in leading the school's fundraising events and coaching several sports. He currently serves as the senior youth leader for his church.
