  Board of Accountancy Considers CPE Rule Changes
Proposed changes include defining "group program," "internet-based study" and "self study;" half-hours of credit; and increasing the number of ethics hours required, among others. It is likely that these rules will be in effect January 1, 2009.

A Rising Interest in Alternative Work Schedules
High gas prices are causing employers to consider alternative scheduling. Telecommuting and condensed work weeks may be effective in easing financial pressures felt by employees.

Instructions for Form 990 Released by IRS
The IRS is offering tools that make it easier to answer questions and facilitate uniform reporting on the new 990 form. The new form must be filed starting with tax year 2008.

New Education Program Leads to PFS Credential
The AICPA and Texas Tech University are partnering to offer an educational program that leads to the AICPA's Personal Financial Specialist credential. The program will launch in June 2009.

Hiring and Retention: A Lingering Problem
A shortage of accounting and finance professionals continues to affect employers around the world, according to the second annual Robert Half Global Financial Employment Monitor.

A 2007 Jupiter Research LLC survey indicates that only just over a third of companies with fewer than 100 employees have web sites, but experts note that even small business owners with a little time and money easily can obtain a web presence.
