IRS Rolls Out New Competency Test for Return Preparers
The next phase of the IRS' PTIN program began this week — competency testing. Tax preparers who pass the test and meet other requirements will be designated as a "Registered Tax Return Preparer." CPAs, enrolled agents, and attorneys, among others, are exempt from the new testing but are required to have a PTIN and renew annually.
CORRECTION: The Indiana Department of Revenue Public Hearing will be held on June 5 at 9 a.m. at the Indiana Government Center South. The date previously reported in the Nov. 17 CPA e-Perspective was incorrect.
