INDIANA: INCPAS Urges Support of Mobile Workforce Bill
The Society sent a letter to U.S. Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) asking for support for the Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act of 2011. The bill is critically important to thousands of CPA firms of all sizes and their clients. It would require that an employee's earnings be subject to state income tax and withholding when the employee performs work in a state for more than 30 days during the calendar year. The Society supports a uniform national standard to reduce complexities in filing.

Fingerprinting Too Costly and Burdensome for CPAs
The Society's Tax Resource Advisory Council Chair Jeff McGowan, CPA, outlined concerns for burdensome regulations as part of the IRS' PTIN program, including costly fingerprinting of supervised non-signing CPAs at firms. IRS agreed to delay its fingerprinting requirements, but will move forward with other aspects of its return preparer regulation plan.

INCPAS Urges "Opt Out" for PTIN Holder Information Release
The IRS received requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to release background information on PTIN holders. INCPAS and the AICPA strongly suggested the IRS give tax return preparers the opportunity to "opt-out" of releasing personal and business information, unless the IRS can prove the appropriateness of the information.
