INDIANA: CPAs Take a Break from Work to Help Communities
AccountingWEB.com highlighted efforts by INCPAS, along with the Illinois and Virginia state CPA societies, as they've connected firms and companies with CPAs to their communities through CPA Day of Service. Participants can identify and arrange their own volunteer activities, and even gain positive media exposure. The INCPAS CPA Day of Service will be held tomorrow at locations across the state.

President Signs Act Banning Tax Strategy Patents
The Leahy-Smith America Invents Act reforms the U.S. patent system and states any "strategy for reducing, avoiding, or deferring tax liability" is deemed to be "prior art" under patent law. The bill had been passed by the Senate earlier this month and by the House last June.

The Indianapolis Business Journal is accepting nominations for its annual CFO of the Year. Nominations in the categories of public, private and not-for-profit/government will be accepted through Oct. 14. You can submit the nomination online or print a nomination form. Honorees will be announced at a breakfast on Dec. 9. The Society is an underwriting sponsor.
