vice president - communications
Dave Shatkowski joined the Indiana CPA Society in March 1998 as vice president - communications. He is the editor of CPA IN Perspective magazine and other INCPAS print and electronic publications. He oversees the department responsible for branding and public relations programs, media relations, social media, publication editing and management, graphic design, web site content, marketing, sponsorships and advertising.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1988 where he majored in journalism and minored in business. Shatkowski also attended Purdue University, West Lafayette, for two years. He completed the curriculum in association management through the Institute for Organization Management in 2002. In 2013 Shatkowski received a Certificate of Completion for the Knowledge Management Professional Development Course from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
Shatkowski served on the communications track Task Force for the AICPA & CPA/SEA Interchange Conference from 1998-2000 and the State Society PR FOOD Group planning task force in 2009-10 and 2012. From 2001-04 he was a member of the board for the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Alumni Club of Indianapolis. He is currently a member of the Public Relations Society of America and both the American and Indiana Societies of Association Executives.
He has more than 22 years experience in the communications field. Prior to the Society, Shatkowski was director of communications for U.S. Diving, Inc., the national governing body for springboard and platform diving, from 1989-98. He was editor of Inside USA Diving magazine and handled media services at national and international diving events including the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.He also wrote for two newspapers, the Post-Tribune in Northwest Indiana and the Indiana Daily Student at Indiana University in the late 1980s, and completed a public relations internship with the U.S. Canoe and Kayak Team in 1987.
During his INCPAS tenure, the Society's communications department has received several awards including Best Total Communications Program (2001 and '04) and Best Magazine (2005) from the Indiana Society of Association Executives.
