This session will provide an overview of changes made by accounting standards updates issued after June 2013. Only pronouncements with broad application will be covered in detail. For other issues, a quick synopsis will be provided.

A.  Frequently Asked Questions in GAAP Financial Statements

This program uses a question and answer format to discuss real practice questions that have been raised by Loscalzo clients. After this session, you will learn how to recognize frequently encountered issues with GAAP financial reporting and the proper GAAP application.
B. Recent Compilation and Review Issues

Compilation and review standards have gone through a number of changes in recent years based on the issuance of SSARS 19, the SSARS Codification and most recently the proposed changes based on the ARSC Clarity Project. This program addresses these issues.

A. Frequently Asked Questions in Employee Benefit Plan

This program reviews real issues and questions asked by participants of Loscalzo’s employee benefit plan seminars as well as observations and best practices identified by the author when performing employee benefit plan audit and consulting engagements. Get quick and practical solutions to issues that may confront your benefit plan practice.
B.  Private Company Initiatives

The “Big GAAP/Little GAAP” gap is getting smaller thanks to the efforts of the Private Company Council (PCC). This session discusses the history of the efforts, how it works and the most recent accounting standards issued based on proposals put forth by the PCC including alternatives for accounting for goodwill, variable interest entities and “plain vanilla” interest rate swaps.

A. A Guide to Analyzing Financial Statements

While all CPAs know how to analyze financial statements, recent articles in the financial press on improper revenue recognition, quality of earnings and cash flow issues have emphasized the importance of understanding financial statement relationships beyond traditional accrual analysis. This program uses analysis techniques that would identify unusual or unexpected financial statement relationships. Cash flow analysis and use of industry data will be emphasized.
B. Accounting in Transition 
Stacey Painter CPA, Loscalzo Associates, Ltd.
The efforts of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the International Accounting Standards Board around two high-profile projects continue to dominate the accounting news.  This course will cover the changes coming in regards to Revenue Recognition and Leases accounting as they currently exist.
